Farmhouse Pet Treats was founded in 2019 by Andrew (with Nala).
A pasta background – Andrew was gearing up through 2018-2019 to launch ‘The Gourmet Pasta Factory’ in Yass when the kitchen he was to be based out of was sold and the new owners declined to have him work from the premises. That left him with a large amount of Australian whole-wheat flour that was to become his ‘farmhouse pasta’ range.
The following weekend he was baking some treats for his dog Nala when it dawned on him… pet treats! Having made treats for more than 15 years for Nala and his previous dog Jessie, it was a natural fit of Andrew’s cooking skills, food technology knowledge, and love of dogs.
Andrew and Nala perfected recipes throughout 2019, and in November trialed the concept at the Murrumbateman Farmers Markets as Farmhouse Pet Treats. The response was huge, almost selling out on the first day with a range of only five treat products. Andrew was joined by Ebony (with Luna) to grow the business. New treat lines were added, and new markets attended.
Today Farmhouse Pet Treats has more than 35 treat lines, many made at the actual farmhouse in Yass, with more treats planned. As of August 2020, Farmhouse Pet Treats has Andrew and three part-time staff to bake treats, bag treats, pack internet orders, and attend markets.
We remain responsive to customer requests for new treats, and as always have a solid focus on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. If, for whatever reason, you’re not satisfied with our products please get in touch and we’ll do what we can to correct things. We’d also love to hear from you if you have any ideas for what we can stock next, or just to show us photos of your pets enjoying our treats.
Ingredients & safety
We love our pets as much as you love yours – only the best will do. We only use Australian ingredients wherever possible.
Our fresh-baked cookie treats use the very best of human-grade ingredients, the same ones you could buy for yourself. This ensures the highest quality and safety goes into our treats, resulting in the best quality treats for sale. We do use a preservative in our baked treats – like our other ingredients, it’s human-grade and safe for pets. Our baked treats carry a shelf life of six-to-eight weeks.
Our dried treats are 100% meat product, with no additives or preservatives of any kind. Our dried chew and sausage treats contain a majority of meat products, with only the minimum amount of other ingredients to ensure a consistent texture.
We dehydrate the products, removing all moisture, and then give a short heat treatment sufficient to destroy pathogenic organisms (including salmonella) – making the product healthy and safe for pets. This advanced process allows our dried treats to carry a shelf life of one to two years.
(Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) is a management system in which food safety is addressed through the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and physical hazards from raw material production, procurement, and handling, to manufacturing, distribution, and consumption of the finished product. Whilst not yet HACCP-accredited, Farmhouse Pet Treats is implementing all HACCP steps with a view to formal certification in 2021.
Lunala Pty Ltd
Lunala Pty Ltd is the company behind Farmhouse Pet Treats. The name does not come from a Pokémon, but simply from the joining the names of Ebony’s dog Luna and Andrew’s dog Nala – Lunala.
Our operations are based on Andrew’s farm on Wargeila Road Yass. As this is a working farm we do not offer appointments or allow visitors – there is a range of other ways to buy our treats.
